Graphene x Aerogel

Graphene Composites (GC) is a nano-materials technology company. In partnership with the UK government-funded Centre for Process Innovation (CPI), we combine graphene (the strongest known material and one of the best electrical conductors), aerogels (some of the lightest materials and amongst the best insulators/shock absorbers) and other materials into a range of composites that are amongst the strongest, lightest, most resilient materials ever created.

To our knowledge, our GC Shield™ Plus is the only soft (flexible) armour that can stop an M80 bullet - and it is half the weight of the comparable (NIJ Level III) hard armour shield.

Our GC Shields also have the unique ability to link together to form a Shield Wall. Groups of people (e.g. classrooms) can now be protected quickly and effectively.

Areas of Innovation


Aerospace composites

We are developing aerospace composites where our graphene/aerogel composite is layered with other materials and cured using a process similar to that used for carbon fibre. Our prototypes should deliver similar performance as carbon fibre - at half the weight.


Lightning harvesters

We have a patent pending on a new way of generating electricity - harvesting electricity (including lightning) from clouds, via ultra-long GC composite cables that are coated with super-conductive graphene. Potentially an infinitely renewable energy source.


armours

Our GC Shield stops 9mm, .357/.44 Magnum and up to 7.62mm x 51mm NATO M80 bullets - and it is half the weight of comparable shields. GC Shields can also be easily assembled into a Shield Wall - to protect students in a classroom, for example.

GC composite armour is comprised of multiple layers of graphene, aerogel and other advanced materials. GC armour delivers stab and bullet protection at roughly half the weight of conventional armours, with significantly better force dispersion - thus reducing impact trauma.
